The Florida Mall Hotel Undergoes a $23 Million Renovation

The new management team, Edinburgh Management LLC, is repositioning The Florida Mall Hotel, formerly known as the Adams Mark, into a first-class meeting destination. The renovation has included a total property upgrade and will continue with the addition of new meeting space scheduled for completion mid-2006. This twenty-three million dollar renovation is in response to changing market conditions in Orlando. The Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau reported over ten million visitors came to Orlando for business purposes in 2004. This was also the year that several new luxury hotels were introduced to the market. In a recent article published by U.S. News & World Report entitled, Opulent Orlando; move over motels, the magic city is going deluxe; writer Christopher Elliot stated, “In a town where cheap motels have been the standard, the arrival of new luxury hotels and services is perhaps as significant as the opening of another major theme park. The goal is to lure more convention business to the city.”

Frank Couzo, director of sales and marketing for The Florida Mall Hotel states, “Over the last year, Orlando has seen a 19% increase* in convention and meeting business. This, combined with the addition of several new luxury hotels, has motivated us to focus on providing superior service and amenities, and become more meetings oriented. We know that meeting planners who are looking at Orlando have more choices, and now expect greater luxury in their amenities.”

Scheduled for expansion are the conference and meeting facilities, which will grow by 100% percent while being completely modernized. Upon completion, the hotel will be able to accommodate conferences of 1,200 or intimate meetings of 20 or less. Total meeting space will increase by 20,000 square feet, to be comprised of 23 meeting rooms, including three ballrooms and four executive boardrooms. Pre-function areas will total 4,500 square feet.

Both meeting planners and their attendees will enjoy superior guest amenities including; custom wood furniture, 32’ LCD wall-mounted flat screen televisions, granite bath countertops edged in deep black rod iron, and granite floors. The overall guestroom ambiance is one of casual sophistication, featuring soft earth tone colors of yellow and green that give-way to fluffy, pillow-top beds adorned with over-stuffed feather comforters.

Technology upgrades are a major part of the renovation. For the convenience of meeting or conference attendees, complimentary hi-speed Internet access is now available in the comfort of all 510 guestrooms. Guests that opt not to travel with a laptop can make use of Wi-Fi hot spots or Internet kiosks located throughout the property.

Another unique amenity found only at The Florida Mall Hotel is Orlando’s largest retail shopping mall. The Florida Mall, which is connected to the hotel, provides business and leisure travelers alike with over two million square feet of extraordinary shopping. I did a google search for travel, and after trying about 5 different sites, I was getting discouraged when suddenly I found one called CRS Central Reservation Services. I typed in New York at the designated place and a page came up with quite a few options, one caught my eye, since I knew the hotel chain, and was amazed at the rate that was showing...After I glanced over the site and payment methods I booked it immediately in case the availability changed. There was no service charge by CRS and the hotel had a 48-hour cancellation policy, which was fine with me.

Overall, I’m very happy with my experience using CRS Central Reservation Services. It was easy, fast and very efficient offering fair prices, a varied selection of properties, though limited destination cities, along with friendly service and I would recommend them very highly to anyone who seeks a hotel in the 5 cities they represent.

The new web site brings CRS to the forefront of Internet technology as it integrates hotels directly with customers using the web to make reservations.

Since 1995, CRS has had a presence on the Internet. Although not in the same league as Expedia.com or Hotels.com, CRS continues to provide an exceptional experience both to the hotels that provide inventory in the system as well as the customers who choose to book with CRS.

Carlos H. Giraldo, President of CRS, states "the success of the company is that we work with a small number of hotels in limited destinations. We focus on learning as much as we can about the hotels we represent which we can do because we represent less than 100 hotels in four major cities - Miami, Orlando, New York and Boston. At the same time, the philosophy of the company is to provide exceptional service.
